Pointing out that the two terrorist had sneaked into the Indian territory from across the LoC at Balnoi, sources said that the troops opened fire when they tried to flee on being challenged by them. While one was killed, another managed to escape under cover of darkness.

Significantly, this has been the second infiltration attempt from across the border which has been foiled by troops in the state since Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharief met in Ufa (Russia) on Friday with the latter reassuring India to deal firmly with terror.

Earlier on Sunday, troops had killed three terrorists in Keran sector after they crossed over to the Indian side from PoK.

To disturb the prevailing peace in Jammu Kashmir, sources said that there have been reports of growing desperation among terrorists to sneak into the Indian territory from across the border. To facilitate infiltration, Pakistan Rangers too have been providing them cover fire, sources said while referring to increased incidents of ceasefire violations by them during the past two months.

On June 1, a BSF personnel was injured in firing by Pakistani along the international border in Hiranagar sector. Earlier during the same day, Pakistani troops had resorted to firing from across the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch where army had a few days ago foiled an infiltration attempt killing a terrorist few days back.

Last week also, Pakistan Rangers had resorted to mortar shelling on BSF border out posts (BOPs) along the international border in Arnia sector.
