MINSK: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday called for boosting relations with Belarus in different sectors.

Speaking to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during delegation-level talks in Minsk, Nawaz particularly mentioned trade, defence and economic sectors to forge ties between the two countries, Radio Pakistan reported.

The two leaders exchanged views on cooperation in trade, agriculture, investment, culture and education sectors.

Deliberations were held on matters relating to international and regional importance, wherein the premier offered Lukashenko land for construction of an embassy in Islamabad.

Earlier, the Nawaz was warmly welcomed by President Lukashenko and other officials of the country upon his arrival at the Palace of Independence in Minsk.

Nawaz was accompanied by federal ministers for commerce, defence production, information, food and agriculture, special assistant on foreign affairs and chairman board of investment during his visit.
During the three-day visit, premier will also participate in the Pakistan-Belarus Business and Investment Forum and is scheduled to visit several industrial units.

Nawaz has traveled to Belarus with a delegation of businessmen. Businessmen of both countries will discuss cooperation prospects in Minsk on Tuesday, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.

Moreover, a number of important agreements are expected to be signed during the visit.
The visit to Minsk comes following an invitation from Belarus president and marks the first ever visit to the country by a Pakistani prime minister.
