A senior official at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Friday telephoned at the residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani to communicate that the scheduled meeting between Pakistan National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz and the veteran separatist leader would take place on August 24.
Geelani’s close aide Ayaz Akbar said he received a call from Counselor in the Pakistan High Commission, Ubaid ur Rehman Nizamani at around 6:30 pm.
“He (Nizamani) told me that the scheduled meeting (between Aziz and Geelani) will take place on August 24 at 9:30 am in the Pakistan House,” said Akbar. The Pakistan House is the official residence of Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit.
Tension between India and Pakistan heightened on Friday ahead of the proposed NSA-level talks between the two countries as Pakistan remained committed to Aziz’s scheduled meeting with separatist leaders at New Delhi ahead of the NSA level talks.
The Pakistan NSA is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on coming Monday.
“Some reports had created confusion during the day… the call from the Pakistan High Commission was important,” said Akbar.
He said Pakistan High Commission official talked to him on the phone for at least seven minutes
Geelani who is scheduled to have one-on-one meeting with Aziz would fly to New Delhi in the morning of August 24. He would be accompanied by two senior members from his party.
Last month Geelani had boycotted the Eid Milan program hosted by the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit over non-inclusion of Kashmir in a joint statement between Prime Minister
NarendraModi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Ufa, Russia.
“Geelani Sahib will discuss many important issues with him (Aziz) and will have an important message for Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief,” Akbar said refusing to divulge the details.
