Clashes broke out on Monday between protesters and government forces in Batengoo village of Anantnag district against the killing of a Kashmiri trucker by a mob in Udhampur area of Jammu region.
Zahid Rasool Bhat succumbed to injuries sustained during a petrol bomb attack on a truck he was sleeping on along with two more Kashmiris by a mob in Udhampur on Oct 9.
After funeral prayers of Bhat were offered at Habba Khatoon petrol pump at Batengoo, dozens of youth staged demonstrations in the village located near Srinagar-Jammu highway in Khanabal, 54 km south of Srinagar.
Witnesses said angry demonstrators hurled rocks at police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who responded with tear and pepper gas canisters.
The Srinagar-Jammu highway continued to remain blocked today for the second consecutive day.
Rail services between Qazigund and Baramulla have also been suspended due to the situation at Anantnag for today, railway control room said.
Restrictions are in place in various areas of the district with police and CRPF men deployed in strength to contain anti-India protests.
