Police on Thursday used tear gas to disperse Shiite mourners in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
Hundreds of mourners defied restrictions and managed to reach Jahangir Chowk from Shaheed Gunj area of the city in a procession today afternoon.
As soon as they reached Jahangir chowk police and paramilitary forces fired dozens of tear smoke shells to disperse them.
All entry points to Lal Chowk have been sealed to prevent Shiite processions and protests over the death of a Kashmiri trucker killed in Udhampur petrol bomb attack.
Muharram processions were banned in Srinagar since the start of militancy in late eighties.
