Several top pro-freedom leaders, including JKLF chief Yasin Malik, were allegedly thrashed by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men in south Kashmir on Tuesday.Eye-witnesses told Greater Kashmir that CRPF men went berserk during an anti-India demonstration in Batengoo – native village of trucker Zahid Rasool Bhat killed in Udhampur petrol bomb attack – today.
Several top pro-freedom leaders were injured in CRPF action, they said.
The leaders include Yasin Malik, Javid Mir, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Yasin Bhat, Ahsan Untoo, Shabir Dar, Farooq Ahmad Khan and Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi.
Untoo, Dar and Khan were badly injured in the thrashing, said a witness.
The leaders were later detained at Sadder Police Station in Anantnag town.
The leaders were visiting the village to express solidarity with the victim’s family when the CRPF men went berserk.
Earlier, a JKLF spokesman said, Malik had announced that he would sit on a 24-hour-long hunger strike at Lal Chowk in Anantnag town to protest the killing of Bhat.
