Kashmir shuts against beef ban

Life in Kashmir has come to a grinding halt due to a shutdown against the banning of beef in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
The call for the strike was issued by both the factions of Hurriyat and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front.
Kashmir’s Grand Mufti has also appealed people to observe a complete shutdown today to protest what he termed as ‘interference in our religious affairs’.
All the shops and other business establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads in summer capital Srinagar.

A skeletal movement of private vehicles has been reported though.
Similar reports of shutdown have been received from other districts of the valley.
Reports said that clashes erupted in several areas of the valley with young men engaging in ding-dong battles with police and paramilitary forces.

Restrictions are in place in several areas of downtown Srinagar to prevent protest rallies while all the top separatist leaders have been detained either in their house or police stations.
