Locals told Greater Kashmir over phone that police and paramilitary personnel deployed heavily in and around Nowhatta did not allow them to move out of their homes.
Kashmir’s head priest and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq who addresses worshippers every Friday was put under house arrest yesterday.
Mirwaiz was planning to lead a sit-in at the mosque after Friday prayers to register protest against the atmosphere of intolerance and attack on Kashmiri truckers.
However, authorities said that the restrictions were placed as they had apprehension of law and order problem.
